The systematic study methodology has interested other major bulk urban supply authorities.

Indec, in partnership with HARC, delivered a resilience study and a preliminary business case for capital investment to improve the resilience of the Greater Sydney water network.

The project team conducted a risk assessment across the whole network to identify risks and proposed treatments through a combination of consultation with WaterNSW and a systematic review of each asset in the bulk supply network. A preliminary business case was then developed for the feasible proposed treatments to incorporate into future project forecast and to secure seed funding to prepare preliminary/final business case, scoping and design report, stakeholder engagement, environmental and planning approvals.

Key highlights of the successful project delivery included:

  • Development of a system-wide risk assessment framework for the Greater Sydney water supply network that is aligned to WaterNSW’s risk management framework
  • Development of a repeatable methodology to measure the key performance criteria in terms of economic costs
